Whilst you have to accept you’re paying quite a bit towards the Hugo Boss brand name, I still find their watches to be very stylish and well built offering value for money.
It’s an affordable watch at under £500 so ticks all the boxes for us taking the time to feature it on The Watch Blog.

My Initial Thoughts On This Watch
This Hugo Boss watch is a stylish and affordable timepiece with chronograph timekeeping and a 100m water resistance rating. In this price range, from Hugo Boss, that’s not a bad set of specifications.
Personally, I’ve always been a fan of oversized watches so this initially stood out to me, a 48mm diameter casing is perfect for standing out on your wrist.
I like the classic style to the dial design for the black background and the silver tinted hands and hour markers standing out nicely against it. There’s also 3 chronograph sub-dials on display for operating as a stop watch should you find the need, these days it’s often more about the look of the watch though lets be honest.
Powering this watch is a Japanese made quartz movement. These are fairly affordable movements but they’re known for their accuracy and reliability. You can’t go far wrong with a quartz movement really.
Type of glass
Protecting the dial is a mineral crystal glass lens. You’ll find this type of glass on many watches in the affordable price ranges. It offers a good combination of scratch and shatter resistance.
The next level up would have been sapphire crystal glass which offers excellent scratch protection, but you lose some of that shatter protection which is also an important element in my opinion.
Casing & Size
This is an oversized watch and as such features a 48mm stainless steel casing diameter. It’s not overly thick though, sitting at 12mm depth.
Considering the average diameter size these days is 40-42mm this watch does have a fair amount of extra size to it. For people who love larger watches it’s ideal. Please be aware that this type of oversized watch may not be ideal for people with smaller wrists.
Watch strap and clasp
The Strap of the Hugo Boss 1513701 is also made of stainless steel and comes in a popular Milanese style. The width of this strap if 24mm which is inkeeping with the larger casing design. It fastens with a tang style clasp which I personally find very easy to operate and change the length of as required.
