Hello, today I’m doing a G-Shock G-7900-1ER review. This is a very sporty watch from the G-Shock series, it features tons of useful functions such as an auto light, tide graph, yacht timer, and more. As with many of the other G-Shock watches this has an oversized durable design that people really like the brand for, so let’s take a closer look at it.

I quite enjoy featuring G-Shock watches on this site, I think they offer great value for money which is quite important to a good watch in my opinion. This model has lots of useful features that are detailed below whilst keeping to that typical G-Shock durable design.
Protecting the dial of the watch is a mineral crystal glass. This type of glass is specially hardened to be extra resistant to scratches and knocks. It’s perfect for a watch that’s designed to survive a drop as well as mineral glass is shatter resistant.
Surrounding the watch we have this thick protective resin that gives the watch that bulky feel. This is part of G-Shock’s shock resistant build which gives it that extra durability to withstand drops and knocks
Of course, this is a pretty large watch, the casing diameter is 50mm whilst the thickness measures 17mm. This makes this an oversized chunky watch that will stand out on your wrist. The size is something to keep in mind if you have smaller wrists as it might not be so suitable for you.
The watch includes a huge selection of features that I’ll list below:
- Auto-Illuminator: An electro-luminescent panel causes the entire face to glow for easy reading. Auto Light automatically turns on the EL backlight when the watch is tilted towards your face for reading.
- Low-temperature resistant: Even temperatures as low as -20C have no effect on this watch.
- Display flasher: A light diode flashes as soon as an alarm, a countdown-time or the hour signal has been reached.
- Moon data display: The phase of the moon is shown on the display based on your current latitude and longitude.
- Tide graph display: Tidal movements are displayed graphically based on your current latitude and longitude, and the lunitidal interval.
- World time function: Displays the current time in major cities and specific areas around the world.
- 2 stopwatch functions – 1/100 sec. – 1.000 hours: Time lapsed, interval time and end time are measured to the nearest one-hundredth of a second. This model has two independent stopwatches, each of it can time up to 1.000 hours.
- Yacht timer: The perfect prerequisite to every regatta and yacht race: The countdown start time can be set within a period of 1 to 10 minutes, usually 5 minutes. An audible signal sounds once after every elapsed minute. For the last ten seconds before the start, the signal sounds every second.
- Timer – 1/1 min. – 24 hours (with automatic repeat): For fans of precision: the countdown timers help you to remember specific or recurring events by giving off an audible signal at a preset time. They then count back automatically from the preset time. The time can be set to the nearest minute and up to 24 hours in advance. Ideal for people who need to take medicines every day or those who do interval training.
- 5 multi alarms: This model is equipped with 5 independent multifunctional alarms. One of these alarms is a snooze alarm. This clock has the perfect alarm for any type of appointment. The model is equipped with a total of four repeat alarms: 1. Daily alarm, sounds at the same time each day, 2. Date alarm, e.g. to help you remember birthdays, 3. Monthly alarm, sounds on the same day at the same time each month, 4. Alarm for every day of a particular month.
- Automatic calendar: Once set, the automatic calendar always displays the correct date.
Inside the watch is a Japanese quartz movement, these are reliable and accurate as well as being very affordable which helps keep the price of the watch down.
The strap itself is quite wide to go with the bulkier design of the watch, it measures 27mm and is made of a resin plastic. The strap fastens using a typical buckle style clasp.
The watch has a 200m or 20 bar water resistance rating, this is suitable for professional marine activity, serious surface water sports and skin diving.
